New Blackboard v.8

MU upgraded to Blackboard to version 8 on May 27. The new version replaces the current Gradebook with a completely redesigned Grade Center. Two all new tools, SafeAssign (an intellectual property checker) and Self and Peer Assessment (tools for guided review of work), are included, as are updates to the Discussion Boards. We will also be hosting more formal “back to school” sessions in August, the dates and times for which will be announced soon.

Multi-touch interfaces are input devices that recognize two or more simultaneous touches, allowing users to interact with computer applications through swipes, pinches, rotations, and other actions that allow for richer, more immediate interaction with digital content. Access to over 3,000 books online
Did you know MU Libraries has an online collection of titles on a wide array of topics called eBooks? Documents in eBooks can be cross-referenced, and are full-text searchable. Mizzou's eBooks can be accessed on campus, or off-campus with VPN or by proxy server.


EDUCATION NEWS

A computer lab that students use but never see
North Carolina State University may never build another computer lab. Instead the university has installed racks of equipment in windowless rooms where students and professors never go. The project is called the Virtual Computing Lab, and users enter it remotely, from their own computers in dormitory rooms or libraries. Read full story.


TECHNOLOGY NEWS

Adobe launches new version of Acrobat with Flash
Acrobat 9 comes with Adobe's video-enabling software Flash. Users can include Flash-based videos when they create and share documents with the portable document format, commonly known as PDF. Read full story at Wired News.
