Using minimal technology to increase student engagement, Professors Kristina Aldridge and Carol Ward were able to increase retention rates and grade point averages in Pathology and Anatomical Sciences 2201: Human Anatomy. Citizen journalism refers to a wide range of activities in which everyday people contribute information or commentary about news events. With the birth of digital technologies, people now have unprecedented access to the tools of production and dissemination. Citizen journalism epitomizes the belief that the experiences of people personally involved with an issue present a different — and often more complete — picture of events than can be derived from the perspective of an outsider. Citizen journalism encompasses content ranging from user-submitted reviews on a Web site about movies to wiki-based news. It forces contributors to think objectively, asking probing questions and working to understand the context -- the kinds of activities that lead to deeper learning. New look, new resources for 2008
The campus portal you use now for Blackboard & WebCT will get a facelift in time for the Spring '08 semester. The new portal will house resources and login entry points for Blackboard, and e-Portfolios, as well as resources and registration pages for the increasingly popular clickers (student response systems). The new portal debuts in late December at the same Web address, http://courses.missouri.edu.

Conversations about College Science Teaching
Faculty! Hear Peter Motavalli, of the Department of Soil, Environmental, and Atmospheric Sciences present on, "Writing Beyond Classroom Boundaries: Improving Undergraduate Student Environmental Writing by Diversifying Assignments and Intended Audiences" on Dec. 6, 2007.
